Interview Q&A
How long have you been in business?
27 years (since 1988)
What is your primary product or service?
Truck Safety Education, for truck drivers, trucking companies, and the general public.
How did you first become interested in your line of business? (if owner) - What is your background? (If owner or store manager)
Public Act 348 of 1988 established the Michigan Truck Safety Fund, and the Michigan Truck Safety Commission to oversee the fund. The act calls for a percentage of the fund to be spent on truck driver safety education programs. We at the Center implement those programs.
How do you differentiate yourself from other businesses in your category and area?
We are unique in the nation in the way we are funded by the industry we serve, not by tax dollars. We are also considered experts in the field of truck safety regulations, both Federal and State, and we receive thousands of calls each year asking about regulatory compliance, drug & alcohol testing, axle weights, hours of service, licensing and truck plating, and many other topics related truck safety.
How many locations do you have and do you have plans to expand?
We currently have two offices, one in Lansing, MI (Lower Peninsula) and one in Iron Mountain, MI (Upper Peninsula). We expect to move the Iron Mountain office to relocation to another UP city some time during 2015.
Provide detailed directions to your location

What type of payments do you accept?
Since we are already grant-funded by the industry, we cannot and do not charge for any of our products, programs or services.
Which areas do you service?
The Michigan trucking industry across the entire state.
What are your hours of operation?
